NURSERY CURRICULUM FOR SPRING 2

CURRICULUM FOR SPRING 2

This half term our topic is ‘Bedtime Stories."

AS READERS

We will be reading books linked to our half-term theme: “Bedtime Stories,” these include: “Busy Recycle,” “Peace at Last,” “Good Night Gorilla,” “Handa’s Surprise,” “We’re Going on an Egg Hunt,” and the traditional tale, “Rapunzel.”

The children are also playing Fred Games from RWI, beginning to recognise the picture cues for m,a,s,d,t,I,n,p,g,o,c,k and hearing initial sounds in their names and similar.

AS WRITERS

To improve the children’s fine and gross motor skills we will be doing activities that cross the diagonal such as dancing with scarves. We have funky finger activities and name writing in the morning to strengthen the children’s posture, shoulder and elbow movement, hand grip, and pincer grip. The children also take part in Scribble Club, where they can scribble their inventions and make magic happen. Mark-making opportunities are out every day inside and out.

AS MATHEMATICIANS

The children will be developing maths mastery in the nursery. They will be exploring 2D and 3D shapes, ordering 1,2,3,4,5. We will continue to subitise objects (by not counting) but use the approach of “What do you notice? How do you see it?”

We will explore the vocabulary associated with capacity, length, and mass.

The children will get a firm grasp of what number sense is, using practical activities and through their own exploring. Maths is everywhere!

AS EXPLORERS

The children will embark on an interactive journey of Harlow looking at comparisons with here and an African town as in “Handa’s Surprise.”

We will discuss the importance of why we need to look after our teeth, who helps us and how we can keep them healthy for Oral Health Day.

We will take part in Holi and Easter activities and discover how Hindus and Christians celebrate it.

PSED

Children follow Jigsaw and Happy Minds. We also have circle times and on-the-spot opportunities to develop PSED skills.

PE

Lessons will take place every Tuesday morning with our PE Staff. The children will need to come to the nursery wearing their PE kits.

“STAY, PLAY AND SHARE” sessions.

Parents and carers are welcome to stay for a lovely, calm 45 mins on a Friday morning, to share their child’s learning. It might be craft activities, cooking, playing games, sharing books, watching live sessions, or even looking at their child’s Learning Journals.

HOME LEARNING

Please ensure that you are logged on to Class Dojo so that you can see what your child has been doing. Photos and messages will be posted regularly to show you what your child has been learning at nursery.

DROP OFF INFORMATION

We are now encouraging you to drop your child off at the Nursery gate, so they can put their own coat away, find their picture/name independently, vote for the story at the end of the session, and go into the classroom confidently and independently.
