‘Tell me and I forget. Teach me and I remember. Involve me and I learn.’
Benjamin Franklin
I have been teaching at Freshwaters Primary Academy for the past five years, teaching Nursery, Reception and Year 2. In 2018, I became an Assistant Head, with the responsibility of English.
Prior to joining Freshwaters, I taught in a Secondary school. Before that, I was a Senior Tutor in a Further Education college. During my time working in FE, I worked mostly with disadvantaged teenagers and young adults and very quickly realised that they had lost passion for learning. Passion is what encourages students to engage with their learning and become excited and interested in their education. It was my role to inspire them and equip them with the skills and passion to enable them to reach their full potential and strive for the best. The core values of teaching do not change, regardless of the age of the student entering your classroom. Positive early experiences within education provide children with the best possible start to their education. Children should be excited and look forward to every new school day. It is vital to ensure that children are excited, nurtured, safe and inspired within their class environment to enable them to reach their full potential. I feel privileged to be working with children during the early stages of their education here at Freshwaters.
