Mr Robin Dalton
I have been teaching at Freshwaters since 2016, beginning in Year 4. After moving to Year 6 in 2018, I became the Music Lead in 2020. Prior to this, I taught in both primary schools and secondary schools, where I taught music to GCSE level. I find seeing children experience ‘lightbulb moments’ as they start to understand their world, and watching their individual characters grow and blossom, to be incredibly fulfilling as a career, and a privilege to be involved in.
My background is musical: I studied Music at university, and I am an accomplished trumpet player and singer. I followed this with a masters in composition, before training simultaneously as a classroom teacher and peripatetic music teacher. This enables me to contribute richly to the life of the school – leading singing assemblies, running the school choir, and playing The Last Post live to the children and nearby community during the annual act of remembrance in November
In more recent years, I have developed and maintained a school allotment, designed to enable the children to learn about the natural world in a very hands-on, engaging and fun way. It now produces rhubarb, raspberries and strawberries (amongst other crops) each year.
Apart from school, I lead an active lifestyle. I enjoy sailing and running, and recently ran the Cambridge Half Marathon.
