Miss Kim McPherson
I joined Freshwaters in November 2018 as a co-educator supporting Year 2, before beginning my teaching career as a trainee teacher in September 2019.
I previously worked in the Primary School I attended as a child for five years as a volunteer teaching assistant and then as a 1-1 learning support assistant for a boy with ADHD, followed by a boy with Autism whilst I studied throughout college and university. Half way through college I realised I wanted to be a teacher after teaching a girl in Year 3 to divide, I remember the exact moment to this day! I had a sudden urge to want to teach and inspire children to have a passion for their own learning, and to believe in themselves and their dreams; because after all, if you believe, you can achieve and succeed.
I completed my degree in 2018 with Anglia Ruskin University and I hold a BA Honours in Early Childhood Professional Studies. I was passionate about the way in which children learn, how they develop and the theoretical perspective of the first 7 years of a child’s life, including how to support children with Special Educational Needs.
During my degree and working in a school, I worked (and continue to work) as a Camp Administrator/Early Years Manager for Barracudas Activity Day Camp during the Easter and Summer Holidays. It’s rewarding having the opportunity to support children outside of school and from a completely different perspective.
Throughout my teaching career I aim to help children feel safe, nurtured and excited about coming into school and having the opportunity to be themselves, learn and to succeed in what they set out to achieve. I want them to feel like they can do anything, as long as they believe in themselves.
