Anansi Spiders & Huckleberry Finns Classes
Anansi Spiders and Huckleberry Finns
Year 2
For the final half term of year 2, we will be exploring two fantasy stories. As part of a whole school creative project, we will be reading Alice in Wonderland and completing a dance based on the lifecycle of a caterpillar.
Our second fantasy story is based on an animation by the Literacy Shed, called ‘adrift.’ In the animation a young girl lives alone on a floating whale in the sky. We will be using our Imaginations and travel to a different land……
As readers
we will be reading a range of texts across the curriculum. We will be reading non-fiction texts on Artist Henri Rousseau, Rainforests and plants. We will also be reading Alice and Wonderland.
Through reading we continue to pick apart new vocabulary, be detectives and infer what we think is happening in the text or what is going to happen next and continue to retrieve key information from what we have read.
We will be visiting Mark Hall Library again. We will inform you of the date via class dojos, so library cards can be brought to school.
As writers
We will be creating our own fantasy story, based on the animation adrift. We will complete stories boards and maps and look at how fantasy stories are structured, along with the story language we expect to see within a fantasy story. We will be applying our knowledge of grammar terms to include similes, expanded noun phrases and adverbs to make our stories more exciting.
As mathematicians
We will continue to deepen our knowledge of the four operations; addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. We will also focus on shape, direction and measurement including time, weight, length and temperature.
As explorers
We will be learning about rainforests. We will map out different locations of rainforests, looks at the layers within a rainforest, research the
animals and reptiles that live in the Amazon rainforest and learn about deforestation. Through History, we will be learning about the life of Henri Rosseau and his artwork. As artists, we will complete art work within te style of Henri Rosseau.

Children will attend school wearing their PE kit, which includes a plain white t-shirt, with our without the school logo, navy blue shorts and a navy blue zip up jacket.
